Easter is approaching fast! I can’t believe how quickly this year has already gone by. Spring is definitely in the air and I love it.

One of my favorite activities for Easter is putting together my kid’s Easter baskets. One thing my family does for Easter is on Easter morning we have a Easter Basket Hunt. I’m not sure who in my family started the tradition first but my parents did it for me when I was little and now I pass the tradition onto my kids. Like an Easter Egg hunt, the night before each child’s Easter basket is filled with goodies and hidden somewhere in the house. You have to find your basket but if you find someone elses basket before they do you can’t say anything so that you don’t spoil the fun for them. It’s always a lot of fun and a tradition my kids look forward to each year just as I did as a child.

Walmart recently challenged me to Build-a-Basket on a budget. Since I have two kidlets to build baskets for I decided to see how far I could stretch my allowed budget. Is it possible to put together two Easter Baskets for around $20? So, with the giftcard provided I went to my local Walmart to see what kind of Easter goodies they had.

I was surprised to see so many $1 items at Walmart that would make great basket fillers. I went into the store with an idea in mind and ended up changing it as I was there because of a couple of items I found in particular.

The first basket idea was centered around my son’s love for baseball. I thought he would enjoy a baseball themed basket. I was so excited to find a 12 pack of baseball decorated eggs for only $1.97. Walmart did carry a baseball shaped Easter basket that I liked but to stay in budget I decided to pick up a blue camouflage Easter bucket for only $.97 instead. We can’t forget the grass, Walmart has filler grass for only $1.37 in a variety of different colors. I picked blue to go with the baseball theme. My kids love to play with bubbles and I thought these bubble wands ($.97) would be so much fun to play with on Easter day. To fill the baseball eggs I picked up a bag of Bunny Marshmallows for $1.25. I was able to get about 3 marshmallows into each egg.

On my way to checkout, I saw this adorable chocolate bunny at the end of one of the aisles. It went perfectly with my baseball theme. The chocolate bunny was only $3.68 and added the perfect finishing touch to our Baseball Bunny Basket.

My youngest son isn’t into all of the sports just yet so I decided to do an Easter basket for him centered around the Classic theme of the holiday. The yellow chick bucket was too adorable. It definitely reminded me of my little guy. Since purple is his favorite color I picked up some purple Easter filler for his basket. Just like the baseball themed basket we needed some eggs, so I picked up a pack of 12 bright colored eggs for only $.88 that I filled with the same bunny shaped marshmallows from the other basket. I also added a bubble wand to the classic Easter basket and picked up a pack of Easter pencils for $.97 that I split between the two baskets that the boys can use during homeschool.

Just like with the baseball themed basket, I found the perfect chocolate bunny for my little guy. This year in homeschool we have been reading the stories of Peter Rabbit, I think he will love getting a “peter rabbit” chocolate bunny on Easter morning. It also has a little story book inside which I thought was cute. Like the baseball bunny, the “peter rabbit” chocolate bunny was only $3.68.

So, how do you think I did? Each completed basket costs around $10. I liked that I was able to go to one store and find everything that I needed to put together Easter baskets for the kids. I thought that the variety of $1 Easter basket fillers were great.

What are some of your must-have items for your kid’s Easter baskets?
