I can’t believe we just celebrated Thanksgiving and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun. To get into the holiday spirit, today I will be sharing a fun DIY project that can easily be put together one afternoon.
Usually when I think of wreaths I think of the ones that are already decorated. But Walmart gave me a challenge to try my hand at making a Holiday Wreath using their Christmas Catalog for wreath ideas (click on “see more ads” to find the Christmas Catalog & wreath ideas on pg. 5). So with a specific theme in mind, I headed to my local Walmart to see what supplies I could find to make-my-own Holiday Wreath.

- Garland Wire- $2.50
- Silver Long Picks- $3.48

- Dangling Glitter Lettering “Joy”- $2.00
Supplies Needed
(found at Walmart)
- 1. Gather supplies. I chose a silver, glitter theme for our wreath to match our tree & other holiday decor items.
- 2. Fluff the bare wreath to the fullness you would like.
- 3. Starting at the bottom of the wreath wrap your chosen ribbon around the wreath. To secure the ribbon to the wreath I simply tied the two ends together at my starting & finishing point.
- 4. To hide where we just made a knot with the ribbon, I wire tied a pre-made glitter bow from Walmart onto the bottom of the wreath. If you know how to make your own bow then that is great but since I’m “bow challenged” I decided just to use a pre-made one instead. Maybe one day I’ll take a course in “bow-making”.
- 5. Secure the glitter dangling letter phrase “JOY” to the top of the wreath. This step is optional but I thought the letters added an interesting touch to our finished wreath.
- 6. Fill in the wreath using the mini silver ornaments securing them to various branches using garland wire. To make both sides of my wreath even, I would alternate sides starting at the bottom and working my way up when placing ornaments so one side of the wreath doesn’t end up with more ornaments than the other.
- 7. The last step before completing our wreath is to add a bit of whimsy using long silver picks which I found next to the bare wreaths at Walmart. The picks I chose look like curls which I used to fill in any bare spaces on the wreath. To secure them to the wreath one can use garland wire.
- Hang your completed wreath and enjoy
There is just something so satisfying about completing a DIY project and being able to tell others that you made it yourself. :) I personally think our holiday wreath turned out great especially for our first time.
Walmart doesn’t just have supplies to make your own holiday wreath, they also have other holiday decor like glass ornaments and a new product called Scentsicles. We’ve had an artificial tree for years. I love the convenience of an artificial tree but I don’t like that it doesn’t have that “fresh pine” scent. Every year I’m obsessed with buying pine scented products so that my house will “smell like the holidays”. Scentsicles are pine scented green icicle-like things that you hang on an artificial tree to give it and your house a fresh pine scent. I love the idea of Scentsicles.
Another product I had the opportunity to try from Walmart were their glass ornaments. Since our Christmas tree theme is “ice blue” and has been for years I was immediately drawn to the sparkling white and blue glass ornaments but they also have all kinds of other glass ornaments to match any tree theme you might have. Adding new ornaments to our old tree seemed to give it some new life.
